How Does Storytelling Help Build a Strong Brand?

The number of messages consumers and professionals are bombarded with daily via media and smartphones is enormous—and still growing. If you want people to notice your brand, service, or product, you’ll need to claim their attention amid all this information overload. A strong brand story helps (potential) customers—and employees—feel more connected to the brand. This leads to a solid fan base and a clear, unique position in the market.

 

Our Approach to Developing a Brand Story

To create a compelling brand story, we dig into the brand’s history and look ahead to its future. We search for the brand’s adventurous core: what drives your journey? What are you seeking? But also: what role do you play in your customer’s story? What magic or “superpowers” do you bring, and why does that matter?

To map out this dynamic, we use our Storytelling Canvas. We then develop these narrative elements into a powerful brand story or manifesto. This becomes the foundation for all brand communication—from event concepts to website design.

1. DISCOVER THE BRAND story

After analyzing the current brand strategy, target audiences, and competition, we dive into the brand story. During a workshop, we search for the "deeper layer"—what makes the brand truly credible and authentic? How do all the puzzle pieces fit together?

Together, we crack the code of your brand, supported by narrative frameworks from different perspectives.

2. CREATE THE BRAND story

Fueled by everything we've uncovered, we distill the brand story into one powerful A4 page. This clearly captures the essence of the brand—what it stands for, its ambition, and what makes it distinctive and relevant to customers.

We then develop the brand story into a storybook with visuals and/or a brand story video.

3. SPREAD THE BRAND STORY

We hold all brand expressions up to the brand story benchmark—from website to events. What’s a perfect fit? What needs improvement? And what should the brand let go of? This process sharpens your market proposition to a razor’s edge.

It sparks inspiration and brings clarity for developing new initiatives. The marketing team intuitively understands what is “on brand” and what isn’t. The brand is reborn!
