IN-COMPANY TRAINING: POWERFUL COMMUNICATION WITH STORYTELLING

Why an in-company storytelling training?

Your message is strong in content but sometimes lacks the impact to convince. With storytelling, you can truly connect with your audience. Whether you want to present your products more compellingly, make your team’s value more visible, or ensure your advice lands with greater impact—learn how to engage people with a powerful story. Storytelling is serious business.

What can you expect?

Everyone can tell a story—we do it all day. But within a business context, we often find it challenging or, worse, unprofessional. In this in-company training, you will learn how to use storytelling in your daily work. Through inspiring examples, hands-on practice, and learning from each other, we create an energetic program with engaging exercises and useful tools, such as our Storytelling Canvas. We dive into the principles of storytelling, drawing from theory, personal experiences, and Hollywood blockbusters. It brings your team closer together. Stories connect.

I applied storytelling immediately in an important meeting. We managed to convey the core of our message effectively, and it really resonated. It definitely contributed to a positive outcome.
— Wim van Haendel (Policy Advisor, Ymere)

A. INSPIRATION SESSION – An Introduction to the World of Storytelling

In this in-company interactive session, we dive into the world of storytelling with your team. You’ll learn about the power of stories in communication, how other organizations use storytelling, and how to apply it in your own work.

An inspiration session lasts 1 to 4 hours. With more time, we can develop stories further and incorporate creative techniques like storyboarding or story structures. The session is highly interactive, with different formats (plenary, pairs, or small groups).

Session structure

  • How does storytelling work in communication?

  • What are the key elements of a good story?

  • How can storytelling be applied within an organization? (inspiring case studies)

  • Creating a story structure using the Storytelling Canvas and/or storyboarding techniques

  • Sharing stories and learning from each other

  • How do we apply what we’ve learned in practice?

B. STORYTELLING BASIC TRAINING – Learn to Apply Storytelling in Your Work

In this one-day in-company training, you’ll build your own story based on a personal case (such as a report, presentation, article, project, or proposal). We explore the power of storytelling, from Hollywood blockbusters to workplace narratives. Participants work closely together, give each other feedback, and learn by doing. We refine the stories, focusing on structure, vivid details, and techniques to enhance impact, such as visuals and metaphors. We conclude with a brainstorm on integrating storytelling into daily work.

Training structure

  • How does storytelling work, and what roles exist in a story?

  • Developing the building blocks of your personal story using the Storytelling Canvas

  • Exercise: Everyone can tell a story

  • Structure and flow of a story

  • Techniques to enhance impact

  • Sharing stories and learning from each other

  • Brainstorming and next steps

C. STORYTELLING COMPLETE TRAINING – Become a Skilled Storyteller!

One in-company training day is often not enough to ensure storytelling becomes a lasting skill. By adding short, effective follow-up sessions, participants gain enough experience to confidently apply storytelling in real-world situations. We reinforce learning through:

  • A sneak preview session to practice storytelling in a real-life scenario, including 1-on-1 coaching

  • An anchoring session to reflect and ensure long-term application

Sneak preview session + interim coaching

One week after the training, we hold a sneak preview session, where each participant presents their story in their own way. We inspire and challenge each other: how can we enhance the impact even further? Seeing and hearing each other’s stories provides a strong boost in confidence and skill. Each participant receives individual feedback to refine their story.

Before the sneak preview, StoryDiggers is available as a support line for individual coaching. We help with any challenges and fine-tune your story together.

Anchoring session

To ensure storytelling becomes embedded in daily work, we hold an anchoring session about six weeks after the sneak preview. Participants share experiences and insights:

  • What successes have been achieved?

  • What impact did it have on colleagues, clients, or partners?

  • Who hasn’t applied it yet, and why?

  • How can we overcome barriers?

  • How do we ensure storytelling remains a lasting skill?

Example: Storytelling Training at Ipsos

At the international research company Ipsos, they call themselves “game changers.” No surprise, then, that they place great value on effectively conveying their message to clients.

At Ipsos Netherlands, we provided in-company storytelling training to around 40 researchers.. Some of their clients needed time to adjust, but most were positively surprised. One researcher convinced an American company that Europe needed a different approach through her personal story. Another researcher doubled their project budget with a storytelling-based research proposal.
